Spotlight original charcoal drawing

Black and White Dramatic Storm Clouds Sun Rays Seascape Art Print Cinque Terre Italy Drawing

This black and white original art shows the sun shining down on the seaside cliffs through billowing dark storm clouds. The dramatic light effect is like a spotlight on the rugged coast of Cinque Terre, Italy, specifically the coastal town of Vernazza. These sun rays breaking through the clouds inspire and remind us of the heavens above, beauty in the drama of the impending storm.

Energized is how I feel when skies go dramatic.  While hiking with my brother Steve in Vernazza, one of the villages of Le Cinque Terra, Italy, the wind picked up and clouds rolled in.  It was wonderful as we dined near the top of a seaside cliff.  This was our view at one point as the sun broke through the clouds to create a spotlight over the sea.  Le Cinque Terre is known for its rugged coastlines.  The cliffs stayed in shadow, but still make a dark and interesting shaped background to the dramatic skies.

Monochromatic images tend to move me emotionally in a very different and profound way than those with color.  On this charcoal drawing of a seascape in Italy, I worked to recreate the billowing clouds around this insistent sun.

The paper I used is a thick paper made in Valleriana, Tuscany, Italy.

LARGE WALL ART (Original Art) and frame details:

THE ORIGINAL charcoal and pastel drawing measures 20.8 x 29 inches, drawn on a fine art paper. The original drawing is mostly charcoal with small touches of pastel.

The wall art is matted with white, and framed in an IKEA black plastic frame, lightweight. Instead of glass, the frame came with an acrylic sheet of plastic.
However, this is intended to provide protection for the art during shipping. You are perfectly welcome to hang the art as is, or replace the frame and add glass.

The drawing alone will be shipped flat because the paper is quite thick and I do not want to try to roll it. If you choose to buy the frame (with mat, etc) that is optional, it will also be shipped flat, naturally. The lightweight frame takes up far more volume than weight, hence the higher price to account for the included shipping.
I really recommend ordering JUST the artwork, and framing locally, to your taste.

FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE on prints and the original! Any import taxes must be paid by you.

********************************************

Care for your art on paper:
do not display in direct sun and protect from humidity. The framer should attach the print to the support ONLY on the TOP edge, allowing the paper to hang freely behind the mat. That freedom allows the paper to respond well to most levels of changing humidity.

And thank you so much! Enjoy your art,
Kelly

A friend from Facebook said that upon seeing this charcoal drawing of dramatic storm clouds and beaming sun rays, he was reminded of this poem:

Dover Beach

The sea is calm tonight.
The tide is full, the moon lies fair
Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand,
Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
Come to the window, sweet is the night-air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.

Sophocles long ago
Heard it on the Ægean, and it brought
Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow
Of human misery; we
Find also in the sound a thought,
Hearing it by this distant northern sea.

The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth’s shore
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,
Retreating, to the breath
Of the night-wind, down the vast edges drear
And naked shingles of the world.

Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.
