Giambologna's Trees - Original Pastel Painting

There is a park (Parco Mediceo di Pratolino) just outside of Florence, Italy, which is home to a huge stone and brick sculpture by Giambologna. The sculpture of a crouching old man created in 1579-1580 is titled Il Colosso dell'Appennino (“The Colossus in the Little Alps”) and he reigns over the landscape. I spent a lovely afternoon in this park, looking over the ruins and enjoying all the green. Even the drive there from Florence was beautiful.

These trees line the road to the gigantic statue. The late afternoon light was striking and I had to make some art of it. The colors were just starting to change and thus, there is a lovely play in them from green to yellows.

I wrote about this trip on my blog - three entries in fact. They are here:

This drawing was created in pastels -- pure pigment -- on a black Firenze-brand paper.  Where you see black, there is no pastel, just the paper.  Like all Borsheim pastel and charcoal artworks, this one has been treated with a fixative spray and will ship safely to your home or office.

Write or call the studio if you would like to make Giambologna's Trees yours.  And thank you for liking and sharing.
