Daniela Maccheroni poses for me with her colorful painting of an angel praying over the artist's shadow. Her bright colors livened up the joint during her exhibit in Pisa, Italy, but what struck us more was how sincere her paintings felt. There was obvious suffering in them, feelings of abandonment and loneliness.  Art . . .

Hi lovely art patrons! New Year's Eve is upon us. Did you know that I created a painting by that name? I was carving the marble Gymnast in Texas on December 31, 2010, when the scent of the air changed. The wind picked up, as did my excitement. I ran to our open field and saw a gorgeous sunset happening, tinged with gold . . .

In a lovely field in Tuscany just southwest of Siena lies the famous roofless church ruins, the Abbey of San Galgano.  The nearest town Chiusino was the birthplace of the 12th century knight who became a saint after plunging a sword into a hard stone that "yielded like butter." The Gothic architecture is legend beauty.

Dear Art lover, I had a very different newsletter planned for the end of July. And here it is the first of August. I discovered on my 59th birthday yesterday that I have THIRTY TWO metal staples in my back. The bandage was changed for the first time since leaving the hospital in Livorno, Italy, last Saturday afternoon.

So excited to have THREE art exhibits going on now or very soon:  two countries, three great locations!  And then let us talk about birds!  I have many artworks to show you with the common theme of those inspiring flying creatures, from a never before seen new bronze sculpture, to paintings, an eclectic plate design by Dragana Adamov, printable photograph of an Italian mural of birds delivering mail and MORE!  And finally, I end with gratitude and thanks for an amazing 5-week trip to the USA, teaching, foundry work, family and friends.  Have a read!
