It has been too many years since I have done a proper exhibit of a collection of my artworks. Some of that was by design, as I pulled back to focus on what I really want to explore next, and some was due to my health setbacks. Blah.
The majority of my artworks are currently stored with my brother Michael, in his home, in Norfolk, Virginia. Last year, my mother and my brother Steve and I visited the d'Art Center in that city. I wanted to know more than I could discover on their Web site. I asked Gallery Director Amanda Bradley about how to exhibit with them. Later I applied and she found a space for my work this fall!

This fall the d'Art Center celebrates 40 years of existence! That is very impressive. One of the artists I met there on installation day recently told me that one of their previous locations suffered a huge fire. Today, they are located in a former BANK! The main room is their international changing juried exhibition space. And then they have the vault. Is the door and intimate viewing room cool or what?
As you pass the vault on your left, go left at the corner. Studio 8 is at the end of the short hallway and on your right. My art is hung opposite the door and hopefully is the first art you will see.
Studio 8 Room: Art will be rotated out occasionally for maximum exposure of my works in a variety of subjects and materials.

Michael and I hung the exhibit as you see here on 1 September. We were so glad that we arrived early to have space with which to unload and work. Another artist arrived as we were finishing up to hang her own walls.
I have been working in Norfolk for a couple of weeks now and prepared a sketch of the layout for each wall (my Photoshop having stopped working for some odd reason). Once we were in the space, I chose to flip / mirror the layout on the shorter wall (right side) to better utilize the light. I had brought a few extra 2-d and 3-d artworks to be flexible and we did end up changing things slightly, to add more art. We are quite happy with how the corner looks.
Michael was a natural up on a ladder and in hanging quickly and beautifully the art, especially high up on the wall. When we were ready to leave for a late lunch before my nephew's soccer game, our Uncle John (visiting his wife's family by chance) came to join us. I love family reunions! And friend reunions, too.

Where would I be without the help of many hands and hearts in my life? To each collector, each friend, each interested person who tells someone about my work, as well as my beloved family who supports me in immeasurable ways... thank you.
Michael designs and conducts behavioral experiments in real estate, specifically in the housing markets. But I recently found out that he has held the WORLD's #1 ranking for the last ELEVEN YEARS for those who publish in the top three Real Estate journals.
This report shows the last rolling 5-year period in an annual report by The Real Estate Academic Leadership (REAL). The journals are Real Estate Economics, Journal of Real Estate Research, Journal of Real Estate Finance & Economics.
I went to Austria in 2016 to see him present his research and ideas in a conference there. What an experience and I beamed with pride to see how well his information was received, but also how well he is personally liked by so many people, from students to other professors and real estate professionals.
He currently teaches at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, but he has also been a guest professor at Harvard, Yale, and Cambridge, to name a few. He is kind, driven (especially athletically), a good father, husband, and friend.

Painted Bunting Family Diptych
There are so many wonderful things about Texas, but one of my favorites are the Painted Bunting birds. The vibrant and multiple colors of the male was the solution I had been quietly seeking. About a decade or more ago, in my metallic phase, and when I fell in love with Florentine calligraphy, I had painted silvery-titanium metallic color over TWO 12 x 12-inch thick gallery-wrapped canvases. Then I added the yellow-red-blue-green and metallic gold calligraphy designs to each, leaving space for an actual subject.
Last winter in Florida, I retrieved those canvases from my sister Amber's home and brought them back with me. Now, I have returned with the painted bunting family life depicted and I LOVE how the results turned out. This diptych allows one to hang each canvas side-by-side, top and bottom, or diagonally however you wish. Then you may enjoy a Painted Bunting sighting year-round.

This still life painting consists of a variety of objects: weathered old books, old tin cans, a ceramic jar of spices, and curiously, a sculpture. It is a bust of a woman with an elaborate crown on her head, with a cluster of grapes with leaves on the side of her head. She must be the queen of some sort of abundance, no?
Behind the female portrait is a golden marble base supporting a round wooden object, with lovely wood grain texture. There are letters painted loosely on the old books. What stories do they tell?
