Library of Dreams ~ Charcoal Drawing

Book lovers know that holding a book gives a much better experience than reading a story on a computer of any kind.  And old books have such a distinctive, strong smell.  Some people love the nostalgia of it while others might describe the scent as musty and have a negative reaction.  Even new books can be identified by their "new book" smell.

Here you see a tower of old, weathered books stacked upon a square wooden pedestal.  There is an oval frame with a row of beads on the inside edge that rests upon the books.  These objects are a dream for artists.  Drawing the various textures, wavy forms, frayed book covers, and cracks in the wooden and plaster frame are pure joy!

You may also order prints of almost any size up to 110 x 55 cm [43+ x 21.6 inches]

Note the ratio of 2 to 1 (h x w).  If you want a size not posted here, please write me and tell me what size you would like in your space and collection.

This image makes a popular gift, too.

Framing:

For works on paper, I usually prefer a mat, sometimes also a thinner inner (and darker or colored) mat, with a dark frame.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND spending the extra money to get Museum Glass, or at least another brand of non-reflective glass.  The enjoyment you get from being able to SEE your art from any point of view is priceless, especially since you are probably going to own your art for many years.

With a classic black and white drawing or design, I often like a hint of color in the frame, such as this bright red accent lined frame that collector Shirley in Texas chose.

Detail of frame's corner:  Note that the print arrives with plenty of white border.  In this case, Shirley's framer added a dark grey inner mat, then a cream or beige outer, wider mat before the black frame with the red accent lines.  Despite red being a powerful color, added thinly here, it accents beautifully, without taking center stage.
