The Creation of the Bronze Wall Art Ten
This bas-relief bronze sculpture was inspired by a one-minute sketch I did back in 1994. I have always enjoyed the image, but had simply filed it away with some of my more successful efforts. When I was looking for drawings to put into my exhibit "From Paper to Bronze: Sculptors Who Draw" in July 2002, I came across this one again and decided that I would do something sculptural with it. I hope you enjoy it, too.
This limited edition bronze figure is mounted on a stone (travertine) base/backboard. You may have noticed that the small tattoo on her lower leg is my logo. (This is the first sculpture that I have put my logo on.) But I have actually signed each wax (prior to casting) on the back of the bronze and numbered the edition there so that the writing does not detract from the image. You may see this signature once the bronze is unscrewed from the stone base. The same information is written in pencil on the back of the stone, as well.
Patina on Bronze Wall Art Ten:
Each bronze goes through a long and involved process with individual handling. Thus, each bronze, even in a limited edition, is considered an original. Here you see a patina being applied to the small Ten bas-relief sculpture using a torch. A variety of chemicals and application techniques (brushes, sprays, buffing, layers) go into each patina, or coloring of the metal. Your bronze will be a one-of-a-kind work of art.
Kelly creates the holes in the stone, using a template to position them correctly.
Note that each bronze is signed on the back (I signed and numbered each piece in the wax before casting). The stone has the edition number written in pencil only for clarification / ease. That is less distracting.
Note that around the upper rib cage, there is a diagonal hole drilled in the stone so that the art may hang on an angled nail in the wall. But you may also set the bas-relief sculpture on a small easel. If you want an easel, please send a message to the art studio to verify that we have one in stock.
Rubber bumpers are added to each corner for a protection and a finished look.
Bronze Wall Art Ten On Exhibit in Italy:
Here you may see Ten on exhibit (2009) inside Pozzo Divino, a wine and Italian food products shop in Florence, Italia.
This was a wonderful solo show in a delightful space! [Thanks, Pino!]
