Sitting on a Shelf ~ Original Still Life Oil Painting with Vintage Italian Frame
The artist designed this still life painting for the frame the oil painting on canvas is in. Bought in Florence, Italy, the wood frame is weathered, with small damage, but gorgeous in a platinum metallic with subtle red distressed lines in the patina.
The still life depicts a headless puppet sitting on a group of old books on a wooden bookshelf. There is a small white ceramic jar with some elixir inside and a decorative wood leaf arranged there. The artist has signed her name as if it is the title on one of the larger old books. Lovely texture and depth in this original framed painting. Looks great in warm-colored rooms.

Original Still Life Oil Painting with Vintage Italian Frame
I actually designed this painting for the frame it is in. A friend of mine in Florence, Italy, alerted me to an Italian friend of hers who restores frames. His dream was to take his business to a new level by moving to New York City. For this reason he was holding a fundraiser and I decided to help out by buying this antique frame he had up for sale. He wrapped a random bed sheet over part of the frame as a cushion for my shoulder and I carried the frame home on my bike in Florence, Italy. It looks as if the wood was first painted red and then painted over that with a lovely metallic layer, and then distressed a bit.
The frame sat around in my studio for a while, but eventually I ordered some stretcher bars and bought a piece of primed linen canvas to fit, creating a composition with a little bit of red in it to compliment without overpowering anything. I really enjoyed the textures of the headless puppet sitting on a shelf with lots of old books. This was a joy to paint!
This painting is priced with the frame, let's talk!
