- terra-cotta nude sculpture of woman
- 35 h x 25 x 20 cm (about 14 h x 10 x 8 inches)
- by Kumiko Suzuki
This is a lovely terra-cotta sculpture of a black woman with her hair pulled back into a large bun. She stands tall and proud, her posture is slightly arched back with her arms folded together behind her. The artist Kumiko Suzuki explained that she sees African woman everywhere where she lives in Florence, Italy, appreciating their forms:
"Così per studiare e capire, guardavo (osservavo) i africani su autobus, in piazza, ecc. dovunque. Comunque, loro hanno bel fisico."
"So to study and understand, I watched (observed) Africans on buses, in the square, etc. everywhere. However, they have beautiful physique."
Multi-talented Kumiko has participated in various international monumental sculpture symposiums. She has some sculptures located around in Italy, Armenia, and Bulgaria, part of permanent public art collections. In 2016, for example, a sculpture that Kumiko carved in Italian pietra serena (a grey sandstone found all over Tuscany) became a part of the permanent collection in the Pinocchio Park in Collodi, Italy.
In addition, she has created street-paintings in a lot of places around Italy since 2007.
