In Italy, modern art usually means 100 years or more ago. Here the fountain is seen behind the ruins in Bologna, Italy.
Bologna Italy Parco della Montagnola Oil Painting
Traveling to Bologna, Italy, for the first time, the artist and sculptor Kelly Borsheim, found an amazing stone sculpture fountain of a woman falling off of a startled horse. The larger cities in Italy feature many Steampunk parks in that old figurative artworks and brick, stone, and concrete ruins are set in modern city constructions. Entering Parco della Montagnola she set up her portable easel and painted sketches of body crops of the sculpture to create somewhat abstract images. This one features the hand of the maiden pressing into the bum of the sea horse. His tail swirls around the composition (the neutral shapes are the seahorse). The other sea creature forms were glazed with soothing colors (rust, blues and greens) in more of a still life fantasy composition of geometric shapes. Once back in the studio, the sketch was enlarged on this 24 x 36 inch canvas.
