Italian Pinocchio 'World Traveler' Prints
Prints in a variety of sizes on high quality art paper and some white border.
Pinocchio is a Tuscan "invention." You may read more about The Adventures of Pinocchio online, but what intrigued me was the idea of how tales can often travel around the globe (and through time) more than the authors ever will. Books, or more accurately our stories, share our similar humanity and sometimes different cultures with others almost anywhere in the world, even communicating over generations. Pinocchio is just one time traveler.
Prints of the still life pastel drawing "World Traveler ~ Pinocchio" would make a great gift for writers and readers alike. Looks good in an office space, too. Perhaps for a child's bedroom, if that child is intrigued by fables and classic books of children stories. Fine art prints on paper are available in a variety of sizes and because of the hi-res scan, I can even make lovely prints that are larger than the original artwork.
Globes and maps, especially old ones, have always held a certain kind of charm. Perhaps they represent so much potential for new experiences or visions or even friends. Around Florence, Italy, in some of the shop windows, one notices many wooden puppets of Pinocchio.
I also offer the original artwork, framed with white mat and simple, elegant black frame. I recommend that the Plexiglas be replaced with a non-reflective glass.

World Traveler ~ Original Pastel Painting
* Pastel on Black Italian-made Paper
* 24 x 18 inches
* Available, Framed
* Prints available in a variety of sizes (from hi-res scan of original)
This painting or drawing was created in vibrant pastels on a black Firenze-brand (Italian) paper. What is black is simply nude paper, no pastel. On the technical side, the curled-up rolled antique map with the burgundy ribbon was fun and quite challenging to draw and so was the globe.
A formidable challenge is to use the pastels in a way that matches the artist's aesthetic and training in classical art, meaning the use of soft edges and darker muted colors to create an atmosphere. In this case, specifically, I had to create the shadow tones in such a way that they merged into the black paper without the viewer's brain thinking about this transition.
Like all of my pastel and charcoal artworks, this one has been treated with a fixative spray and will ship safely to your home or office. The work is framed, as you may see in an image on this page. Fine art giclée are also available. Just ask.
World Traveler was a finalist in the prestigious Art Renewal Center 2010-2011 ARC Salon - Still Life Category.
World Traveler Pinocchio: If you tell a really good story, the story will travel further in the world and last for centuries, much more than the author of the story ever could. The children's story of the puppet Pinocchio who wanted desperately to become a real boy (and receive love) originated in Collodi, Italy in the heart of Tuscany.
