I was exploring painting with vibrant colors of this scene of an old country road in Settignano, Tuscany, near Florence, Italy. The lane is surrounded by golden painted stone walls and houses, as well as the typical cypress trees that help make the Tuscan landscape famous. The late afternoon causes the long shadows over the colorful road.
I wanted to play with colors and thus, you see a large tree painted purple with a surrealistic colored yellow, orange and pink sky, contrasting with greens and turquoise accents. This is a fun and colorful scene in Tuscany that is different from most other artworks.
I have been studying color relationships and with an artist I admire and like Casey Klahn, who says that he wants color to be the voice of the art, over tone even. This is one of my "experiments." I hope you enjoy this artwork as much as I do.
Settignano Purple Tree, Tuscany, Italy, is a pastel artwork, designed to be a bit of a study in geometry and color that I hope that you enjoy.
