     I painted these autumn vegetables from live models. Oh, those radishes! They started to crack after such a short time under the heat of the lamp. The old barrel I found in an antique shop in Florence, Italy, acts like a cornucopia in this classic still life painting composition. Also included is an artichoke and two potatoes. 

     The dried dead leaves on the left remind us of the autumn season and perhaps the passage of time.  I put them into shadow to keep the focus on the red radishes and other food spilling out of the mouth of the reclining wooden barrel.  I like the round opening of the wooden vessel contrasting with the "spikey" leaves of the artichoke. 

     This is artwork for your favorite foodie or cook, painted in a vintage style painting called tenebrism (light emerging from a dark background).  This framed oil painting on linen canvas will make some lovely wall decor for your kitchen or dining room. Great housewarming gift, too
