Gemini ~ Garden Bronze Statue with granite base limited edition sculpture by Kelly Borsheim. A 1-min gesture sketch from a live female model inspired this voluptuous figure of a standing woman. She would look wonderful in a circular, raised pond with wall edges wide enough to sit on; perfect for an outdoor garden or near your pool.
Gemini is a two-faced curvaceous woman with two abstract faces, one looks up, the other down and back. Each face is abstracted to act as a surprise as the art appreciator walks around the bronze sculpture, unaware at first that there are two faces... as twins the sign Gemini means, a dual nature, two personalities. The patina imitates granite stone. This nude sculpture ships from Boerne, Texas, or Norfolk, Virginia, USA.

Gemini -- Garden Bronze Statue
with granite base, sculpture by Kelly Borsheim
The usual procedure is for a sculptor to work out an idea for a large sculpture by first creating a small version in clay or wax called a maquette [French] orbozzetto [Italian]. In the case of this garden-size sculpture Gemini, the idea came from the stone itself -- a Canadian marble I had carved and sold the year before -- as an original work of art.
The inspirational 1-minute gesture sketch from live model.
After carving the stone, I wanted to explore the idea of the two faces in the Gemini figure again, play more with the curves, and develop a little bit more detail in the the feminine form. I also had been itching to work larger and start creating a series of sculpture that can be displayed in a garden or -- in this case -- a pond. This voluptuous figure would look wonderful in a circular, raised pond with wall edges wide enough to sit on. The circular form would entice the viewer to walk around the pond and enjoy the many different views of the Gemini bronze in the center.
Gemini is usually a two-faced figure, as she is here, as well. I made the faces very abstract since I wanted to let the viewer walk around as much as possible before noticing the other face. One looks up, while the other looks down and over her right shoulder. This composition was inspired by a one-minute gesture sketch of a model named Sue. I had loved the way Sue uses her hands. In this pose, it was the hand touching her upper chest that enticed me to further explore the pose.
Gemini in bronze is about 40 inches tall. Her circular granite base is 13 inches in diameter.
