This colorful pastel artwork will liven up any space and is sure to become a conversation starter. I created this pastel painting of my friend, gReY the mime, aka Luigi, who is quite famous for his shows in front of the famous Uffizi Galleries in Florence, Italy.
Here he is shown in one of his more colorful outfits as he sits on the stairs on the side of the Loggia dei Lanzi to apply his white mime face. Soon, it will be "Showtime!"

[The original drawing has been sold, but there are images of how it was framed using non-reflective Museum Glass, with spacers to avoid the use of a mat.]
I recommend going to your local print shop and print this image out on a nice thick paper, preferably watercolor paper to mimic the texture of the original paper of the life drawing. You may also try online services such as snapfish.com [printing photographs and ships to you, however, in that case, I recommend choosing a matt finish, not glossy]
Paper prints should be either press-mounted to an acid-free support, such as foam core, or hung on the base support ONLY by the top. If the paper falls freely, it may adjust better to changing humidity conditions. A mat give a classical look. I recommend that the mat be slightly less space at the top. Often if the mat is the same width top and bottom, the art tends to look low. Then a simple black or dark brown frame (depending on color of drawing) will finish the look.

"Il Mimo - Firenze, Italia" - Original Pastel Painting
Pastel on Panel 16 in. x 12 in. Sold
Artist Kelly Borsheim became fascinated with the street performers of Florence, Italy, and their public transformation. This pastel painting depicts a lone mime, gReY, applying his makeup and preparing for his next performance.
Although she first saw gReY - il mimo (gReY - the mime) in 2004, she later met him at a private party in Florence, and they became friends. gReY often performs near the famous Uffizi Gallery and the Loggia dei Lanzi near Piazza della Signoria in central Florence, where he was the day recorded in this drawing. Normally, when he sits on the steps preparing to work, he is surrounded by an audience getting comfortable on the stone rows behind him, but Kelly rather liked the "lone mime" idea, as well as showing off more of the architecture in the Renaissance City.
The Franklin Barry Gallery in Indianapolis framed up this pastel artwork beautifully. They used a gorgeously subtle metallic finished frame with museum glass (dramatically reduces glare) and spacers between the artwork and the frame so that the pastel will never touch the glass, but remains protected.
This pastel painting has sold, but reproductions may be available. Please inquire.
