The sunlight hitting the flowering pampas grass in front of this old stone building in the Tuscan landscape drew me in (pardon the art pun). Italy is famous for its Medieval houses of stone and brick and this pastel painting on paper shows the very essence of Italian architecture. The grasses add a contrasting line and texture, as well as the low bushes in front (which I painted a ultramarine blue because I can.
I have been studying color relationships and with an artist I admire and like Casey Klahn, who says that he wants color to be the voice of the art, over tone even. This is one of my "experiments." I hope you enjoy this artwork as much as I do.
