"Sappho"
32 x 18 x 14 inches
copyright 1995 Vasily Fedorouk
“Sappho” is one of Vasily’s abstracted figurative works, and yes, an original stone carving. While I do not often FEEL anything when viewing too abstract or cubist shapes, I really like this sculpture. Part of it is the surprise element… I did not notice at first the face. But I also enjoy the asymmetrical design, the depiction of a musical instrument with the figure, and its shadows, and all of the triangles Vasily used to depict the ancient poet. His design makes me want to walk around the sculpture to see all of the views. That is enticing!
