Many people love the floating city called Venezia in Italy. The Venetian canals enchant, as well as the architecture that is a mixture of several cultures. One of the popular places for locals and tourists alike is the fish market, just off the Grand Canal and around the corner from the Rialto Bridge.
Back in July 2019, I was wandering around in the night and loved the reflections of the red neon sign from a distant balcony into the dark salty canal waters, the typical type of brick bridge, and the fish market on the right. I stood in front of the wide stairs that lead directly into the canal, later sitting down to capture the view a little longer.
As with several of my drawings from the shadowy areas in Morocco, as well as my charcoal drawing "Fog Over Ponte Canal, Venezia," You may note that she did her sometimes feature in this oil painting on gesso vero primed wood panel: there is a solitary person who seems to be hiding behind the wall of the fish marketplace. The viewer can create the story in this otherwise deserted night scene in the Serenissima City, aka Venice, Italy.

And many thanks go to Jane Sulicich from Australia who came to visit with me while she and her husband Mark returned to Valleriana after the Covid virus disaster lessened. She took the photo of the artist with her painting, and several others.
